The Days

Those were the days
when we had nothing to eat and our clothes and shoes had holes

Those were the days
when we slaved in the river washing all day long

Those were the days
when we slept on the floor, curled up to each other

Those were the days

Those were the days
when we carried our books in our hands

Those were the days
when our roof would leake from any drop of rain

Those were the days
when we would cry until we had no tears left

Those were the days

But today
we have enough to eat and share with others

Today
we have washing machines and laundry mats

Today
we have beds that we can sleep in a different one every night

Today is the present

Today
we have so many bags we don't know which one to use

Today
we have more than one house to choose from

Today
we cry tears of Joy

Today is the present and yesterday is no more

Reminiscing

I can remember
when you and I
was living life on the spree

Doing what we wanted
going where we wanted
experiencing new things,
those were the days.

We talked about the future
we laughed with each other and at our mistakes
and vowed to do better
but later was greater

Too many obstacles
too many setbacks
Too many people came between us

We were young
we were inexperienced
we were easily targeted

The days grew short
and the nights even shorter
reminiscing on the good times we had
with each othe
